My View of the "Beer Summit"

The "Beer Summit" was held outside on the White House Rose Garden, with the president, Professor Gates, Sgt. Crowley, and Vice President Joe Biden, as far as I know, was uninvited. Everybody seemed to be happy, and getting along great.

When the summit was over, Sgt. Crowley along with the rep of the Cambridge Police, and Crowley's lawyer, held a short press conference, and Crowley read a short statement, and then took questions from the media. The police officer did a great job in reading his statement and answering some damn good questions.

What I liked about Crowley, was that he was very sincere about setting up future meetings with Gates, and see where the two of them go from there. From the answers that he gave, it sounds like good things are going to come out of this, and not only for the city of Cambridge, but for every one of us, as we can all learn a lesson.

Let's Get Along

Is it to hard to ask, for people in all walks of life, to get along and stop the race baiting, and other lies that are constantly being spread on television, radio and the internet. Its sickening to say the least about some of these morons spreading hatred and other such hatefulness about the 44th president of our country. There really is no need of it, and it does bother me when I get e-mails from certain people, saying that Obama is not a citizen of the US, so he shouldn't be the president, or he is planning a one world government, and other stuff, that just makes no sense at all. I know some people don't like him, simply because he's black. Well, that dose not bother me at all, as I voted for him, and was proud to do it.

Of course they're some things he has done that I don't agree with it, which is fine. He also has done a lot of good to, seeing with the mess he inherited from George W. He's a story for another day.

I wish Obama the best, and know that it will be tough sledding ahead, as he tries to right this country again, and it would be great if some of the naysayers, and back biters would put their hatred and acting kids aside, and work with him in solving some of the most perplexing problems that are facing us today, tomorrow and the near future.

Birthers

What is it that people don't seem to get, that President Obama is a United States citizen, born in the state of Hawaii. His birth certificate has been produced and shown on television, a number of times. I saw it on Hardball with Chris Mathews, back in the fall of 2008.

The disgusting part of is, they're people like Lou Dobbs on CNN, Rush Limbaugh on the radio, and most note worthy of all, G. Gordon Liddy, of Nixon and Watergate fame. These guys know how to push the buttons, get certain people riled up, and then the shit hits the fan. There is no need for the birther movement, which is supported by the people I just mentioned, and various other wingnuts, who love to spout nonsense and lies about the president, and other important things like health care reform.

I must say, that I am happy not to be a member of the Republican Party, nor did voted for a Republican in my entire life. If I was a member of the GOP, I would truly be ashamed of it, and no denying it.

I have no problem with people belonging to the above mentioned party, as some of my friends belong to it, and we have had some disagreements on certain issues, but all in all, do not get into utter nonsense concerning whether Obama is a citizen or not.

It does get frustrating listening to people being dragged down into the fox hole of idiocy, believing the lies and hate mongering, that goes on in this country today. I would one day soon, to see this come to end, and to live in harmony with each other.

Incident at a Professor's Home

What to make of the incident last week, involving Harvard's Professor Gates and the Cambridge Police, is kind of puzzling as to what actually happened at Gate's home, which is one block from Harvard Square.

From what I read and heard, was that the professor was just getting home from a long trip overseas. He had a hard time getting into his house, as he could not find his key(s). So far, all well and good. Then there was a call made to the Cambridge Police, that two black men, were trying to break into a house. Moments later, police arrive, lo and behold, the fun begins.

Once they got inside the house, which they managed to jimmy the door open Gate's produced is ID, and then an argument ensued between the professor and one of the officers who was white. The next thing you know, Gate's is put under arrest, charged and booked at the police station. He was finger printed, a mug shot taken, which in a very short time went virile across the internet. Gates was released and the next day, the charges are dropped. Gate's demanded an apology, but never got one from the arresting officer. Fat chance of that happening, as police officers rarely ever give an apology, as they think it is beneath them.

It gets even better. During Wednesday night's press conference, (July 21, '09) President Obama was asked what he thought of the incident, involving the professor and the police, by a reporter from the Chicago Sun Times. To make it short, he said "That it was unfortunate incident, that should never have happened." By the way, the professor and the president are good friends.

This morning. the arresting officer said that Obama called him stupid, for arresting Gates, when in fact the president said, "They were acting stupidly" what the Cambridge Police did." I watched the press conference, and that is what Obama said. But this cop said claims that the president singled him out, which he did not do, but the department as a whole. The officer also says he will not apologize to Gates, and thats his choice. The police department said they regretted that this incident ever happened. That should be the end of it.

Be assured this will not be the end of what happened in Cambridge, and rest assured, things like this will happen again and again. In a civilized society, there is no time or place for this.

Judge Sotomayor

Sen Kyle (R) of Arizona, who is the second ranking Republican in the US Senate, says he will vote against Judge Sonia Sotomayor, for the vacant Supreme Court vacancy. No surprise there. As I was watching some of the confirmation hearings last week, the questions he was asking, the things he was saying, and his demeanor, sent me a signal, that he was not going to vote for her. No surprise there. Sen Colburn also another Republican, from the state of Oklahoma, had a nasty disposition towards her. There was Sen Graham (R) of South Carolina, was smug at times too, and and at times very rude. Just no need for grown men to act like that.

Sonia Sotomayor deserved better than what she went through, especially with the clowns that are supposed to be decent and honorable citizens.

Shame on them.

My View on Health Care

The battle in Washington for true Health Care Reform is mind boggling. There are too many different factions sparring, dickering or however one would want to put it. We have lobbyists sent in by the big insurance companies to try to derail any meaningful plan for this ailing nation's health.
The insurance industry is spending an average of $1.4 billion a day, grabbing any Senator's and Congressman's ears to stop health care reform.

Another problem is the lies that people are saying about the Canadian health care, along with a few of the European nations that have Universal Health. It's a shame these people can come on radio and television and say for example; that if we had a true Universal Health Care, that there would be to much government interference. That's nonsense, and they know it.

One other point I would like to make, is that the big drug manufacturing companies are against most, if not all reform. And their the ones that should be ashamed of themselves for charging exorbitant prices on prescription medicine. It's truly sad that when elderly citizens of our country, go to the pharmacy, and get gouged when paying for their prescriptions. There is no need of it.

The lawmakers in Washington, that we pay to represent us, get free health care, not only while they serve, but also when they either decide not run for reelection or voted out office, get to have free health care for the rest of their lives.

Something has to be done, and done now, or else the health care as we have now, will only get worse.

I Finally Did It!

Friday, I finally broke down and put the a/c in. It got very muggy here, and cannot stand being indoors when it gets like that. I seem to have a low tolerance for humid weather. I've always liked the colder weather. It must be that I am a winter baby, and the cold weather never seemed to bother me.

This is the latest start time for turning on the a/c, as it usually is already going in early June. Suffice to say, this has been a cooler than normal summer so far here in eastern Massachusetts.

Weather

The weather in eastern Massachusetts so far this summer, has not been its usual self. We have had more rainy days than sunny. The temps have been running below normal, and it hasn't been humid at all until today.

Do I like the hot and humid weather, not really. I don't mind it when it gets hot, as long as the dew point stays below 60 degrees. Then I am one happy camper.
